5 July 2012 - Fun. - Call Me Maybe

Fun. have had one of the biggest hits of 2012 with "We Are Young", which is like fingernails on a chalkboard for me.  However, their version of another big hit of 2012 is compelling.  I mean, it's not like I have well-documented love for this song or anything like that.  This version is more reminiscent of the many, early acoustic versions of the original.

  1. God DAMN IT! This song is friggin 3/5ths honey and unprocessed sugar cane, 2/5ths black tar heroin... AND SOMEONE HAS PUT IT DIRECTLY IN THE WATER! Undoubtedly, this is the one song I absolutely wish I hated but am utterly addicted to. I think it's been stuck in my head for nearly three months straight.

  2. I can't even make it past the chorus of this song, it's so bad. My sister-in-law had this playing in the car over the weekend, and I nearly volunteered to walk the rest of the way. I don't get at all why it's popular, which is probably why it's popular.

Even with this version, it's still the same crappy song with a better singer.

I'm going to go back to my retro-90's binge with the new Everclear, Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage albums.

  3. @Greg - sorry to hear that. I pretty much called this being a huge song back in March.

And the new Smashing Pumpkins isn't that good. You can't call any band without James Iha, D'Arcy, or Jimmy Chamberlin Smashing Pumpkins, no matter how hard Billy Corgan would like to try. And yes, I know - Chamberlin was involved, but he isn't anymore. This is NOT Smashing Pumpkins!
